This week, we are looking at Mark 7:24-37, in which Jesus heads into gentile territory. There, he meets two gentile people and performs two miracles. However, he does so in unexpected ways. One miracle has no outward signs, and for a time Jesus seems harsh. The other has many outward signs, and Jesus seems caring and compassionate. And yet, in both miracles, Jesus accomplished what he intended. Each recipient comes to a better understanding of who they were to Jesus, what Jesus came to do for them, and ultimately, what Jesus came to do for the whole world.
